Wheeler Gorge Nature Trail, Ojai
The Wheeler Gorge Nature Trail is a one mile loop, located just past the tunnels at the Gorge, beginning at the far end of the Wheeler Campground off Highway 33 out of Ojai.
Parking is available in the pullout area on the right. A little trail from here leads you up the hillside and connects with the loop trail. The main start to the trail is across the highway at a locked gate leading to the far end of the Wheeler Campground. The trail begins under the bridge over the North Fork of Matilija Creek.
The trail includes oak woodland, riparian, and chaparral habitats. Small signs label California native plants along the way.
The trail begins and ends with a LOT of poison oak lining the trail. Pants and a careful steps are recommended!
